Be Still – Songs for the Listening Heart

Be Still – Songs for the Listening Heart is a collection of songs by Australian composer Janet Swain, inviting us to pause, listen deeply and rediscover the presence of love and hope in the midst of life’s challenges.

Inspired by the writings of Fr Tony Doherty, particularly his book Struggling to Believe, these songs speak honestly to the questions, uncertainties and struggles that are part of the human experience. Rather than offering easy answers, they create space for reflection, acknowledging the complexities of faith while gently opening the heart to the possibility of grace, connection and renewal.

Janet’s songwriting brings warmth, sensitivity and a deeply human perspective to themes of faith, doubt, love and the search for meaning. Her music offers an invitation to listen – to ourselves, to one another and to the quiet voice of the sacred that can be heard even in difficult times.

Suitable for personal reflection, communal prayer, and liturgical settings, this collection offers a valuable resource for music ministers, pastoral teams, teachers and communities seeking songs that resonate with the realities of contemporary life. These songs are for those searching, questioning, hoping, or simply longing for a deeper connection with the mystery of life and faith.

Be Still reminds us that even when belief is difficult, we are invited to remain open to the love that sustains us.
